Each surface is assessed before work begins so we can select the appropriate cleaning method, pressure level & treatment. This allows us to clean effectively while protecting the surface & restoring as much of its natural colour & finish as possible.
We clean a wide range of driveway & patio surfaces, including block paving, concrete, tarmac, resin bound driveways, Indian sandstone, limestone, slate, porcelain & paving slabs.
After block paving has been cleaned & fully dried, the joints usually need to be refilled with jointing sand. This replaces material removed during cleaning, supports the blocks & completes the finished appearance.
Kiln dried sand is the standard, cost effective option for most block paved driveways. It is brushed into the joints to replace lost sand & help stabilise the paving. It does not permanently stop weeds & may require topping up over time.
Polymeric sand contains binding agents which set within the joints, helping provide a firmer finish with greater resistance to washout & weed growth. It can offer a longer lasting result, but costs more & is only suitable where the paving, joint depth, drainage & weather conditions allow.
Biocide is left on the surface to work gradually, with results continuing to develop after the clean. It can be applied to suitable block paving, resin bound driveways & patio surfaces, helping them stay cleaner for longer & slowing the return of organic growth.
Pressure washing removes visible dirt & organic growth, but microscopic spores can remain within the surface. Where suitable, we can apply a specialist biocide treatment after cleaning to target algae, moss, lichen & other biological growth.
The treatment needs sufficient time to work before pressure washing, so it must be applied in advance. This can help reduce rapid regrowth after cleaning, although it cannot prevent new weeds or airborne seeds from developing in the future.
Pressure washing removes visible weeds from the surface, but established roots can remain beneath block paving & within the joints. Where required, we can apply a suitable systemic weed treatment before cleaning. It is absorbed through the leaves & works through the plant to target the root system.
On block paving, sealing can also help stabilise the jointing sand & reduce the rate at which weeds & organic growth return. Not every driveway requires or is suitable for sealing, so we assess its surface type, condition & any previous treatments before making a recommendation.
Once your driveway has been cleaned & fully dried, a suitable sealer can be applied to help protect the surface & enhance its appearance. Depending on the surface & chosen finish, sealing can restore colour, reduce water penetration & make future maintenance easier.
Where appropriate, a specialist tarmac restorer can then be applied to revive the surface colour & create a more consistent finish. This is a cosmetic treatment & cannot repair cracks, sinking or loose material, so we assess the condition of the tarmac before recommending it.
Tarmac can gradually fade & become affected by dirt, moss, algae & other organic growth. We carefully clean suitable tarmac surfaces using controlled pressure to improve their appearance without causing unnecessary damage.
